Chicken recipe
While reading a book ran into a story which made me think .. is that what we call as Success?? ….
“He was 65 years old when he received his first pension cheque of $99. He was broke, and owned a small house and an old car. He made a decision that he has got to change. The only idea he had was a chicken recipe, which his friends liked. With that idea in mind, he took massive action. He left his home in Kentucky and traveled to many states in the US to sell his idea. He told the restaurant owners that he had a chicken recipe that people liked and he was giving it to them for free. What he wanted in return was for the restaurant owners to pay him a small percentage on the pieces of chicken sold. He got rejections after rejections, but did not give up. In fact, he got over 1000 rejections. He got 1009 no’s before he got his first yes. With that one success Colonel Harland Sanders changed the eating habits of the whole world with Kentucky Fried Chicken.”
So this make me think … is Age a barrier to success…. Said No…. then is Capital a barrier …. I again said no.. Asked my self Anand are here any barriers at all… got a reply… my dear its all in your mind.
What Colonel Sanders did how many would do, how many of us would knock 1000+ doors and after getting rejected still keep their dreams alive, how many of us would have the belief in their own IDEA and howv many of us would put the ideas into action with a strong conviction, I presume, not many !!!!.
Another example which I generally quote in my training programs …. Is about our very own SRK…. Shah Rukh Khan…. This guy is amazing. Neither does he have a family name like the Kapoor’s or the Khanna’s , he does not have the height like Amitabh Bachhan, He does not have the body built like Hrithik, he did not have the his father who was a successful film personality who would launch him in style, lastly he also does not have the voice like the Big B that would move millions….. BUT STILL SRK is called the king of bollywood…..
Coming back to the barriers… if SRK would have focused on his “DOES NOT HAVEs” I am sure he would be working somewhere selling soaps. What mattered the most is his ability to drive himself. His mental energy, strong focus, dedication, hard work and the greatest of all is to use WHAT HE IS GOOD AT that’s acting.
What Colonel Sanders and our very own Shah Rukh Khan create … was just not the chicken recipe but was a recipe of success. They just picked up an idea, he used what they were good at mixed it with dedication and determination and followed it up with proper planning and persistency. And that changed the way people eat chicken or watched out movies ….
